Coming Home To Solitude

The sky was ribboned pink,
the day had begun so warm and inviting.

I had no time to think of you,
to visit you on this day,
except in spirit,
watching the sun begin to set,
the ride home, one of reflection,
memories rising the closer I came.

I had walked along my emptiness
watching the day play out.
Your favorite spot on the point,
boats sailing, yachts slowing
as they rounded towards the river,
opening to the bay.

The splashing of the waves against the walls,
the spray cooling us and the laughter
of a one year old,as we chased him towards safety.

A day of celebration, once again, without you.

M

I know the feeling Maur~  It's not so bad being our own best friend.  At least I'm always there for myself when no one else is.   Oh Monday, Monday~  hugs~

So true Lori. I just hate when I start to feel the loneliness wrap around me, sometimes catching me off guard.

Thanks Julie, actually it was a day I wished to have gone to visit the cemetery but there wasn't enough hours in the day.

Maureen, I love this line.  Bittersweet indeed...but perhaps it is getting easier for you?

You know I have found it is OK to be alone...right now I would prefer it.  Just got out of a relationship (I think).  He is still calling.  LOL

Hugs,

Patricia

Skyfire and Patricia,
the day I wrote this I was at a family gathering by the bay, a favorite place of my Father's. He passed away a few years back...that is whom I am referring to.
thank you both

your poem touched me...I am familiar with the contradiction in those moments, and i thought you really achieved that feeling in this piece.  its a mad, sad, glad event when a poem touches you...thank you.
