struggling with the reverb
it seems
the neighbors pipes are taller
than their lungs
placed an order
for some thai cuisine
empathizing with the need
for food
that the creatures above
were divulging
among themselves

public radio makes more sense
that the clone loop
they play on bumper stickers
and inside megalopolises
where the corporate stamp
means more
than what you might desire
had you a thought in your head
that was your own

don’t worry
they will tell you how to feel
there is no need to strain yourself
when it comes to things
that may raise questions
in the cobwebs

added a new member
to my family in the courtyard
neighbors paused to inquire
into my lifestyle
to add their ten cents
on the layout of the plants
I just sip tequila
and smile
on the inside

there is a world I inhabit
that no one can infect
with cable television
digital satellite
or ghost stories
about the boy who whistled tunes
that no one else knew
he had a beautiful voice
that no one ever heard
he had a charming smile
that no person ever saw
he had tales to tell
that no on would ever believe

and for him
things were certainly
better
that way

Nice contrast of inner and outer worlds--I love the image of sitting there smiling amused in a world within a world.

Yep, I really DO love this one, and I could relate. Sometimes I really do shut up and just amuse myself with the inner world too.
