When betrayal comes
soft and slow,
a mommy's wisper
the smell of
of early snow,
when it comes
this way,
a gited box
beneath pine
trees in June,
it feels like
the dying grass
under an ever-hopeful
crate of new
tomato
plants;
yellow, alone
and
darkened
until next
spring.
