Fragile eggshell souls
have been known
to crack wide open
with minimal amounts of pressure,
spilling unique contents.

Humpty Dumpty
is not
a child's game
without consequence.

When handled carefully,
some fragile ones
have proven to be
amazingly strong and resilient,
able to stand upright on the edge
of reality’s abundant table,
offering us a new point of view,
a new perspective on
the delicate balancing act
of Life
that we all seem to go through
at one time or another
on our journey
from sheltered first nest
to the last sunset.

But there are those among us
who never fully mend,
whose shells prove to be
too vulnerable.
I was almost one of these,
until someone kind offered me
the strongest glue of life...

unconditional Love.

A difficult find, that particular glue. Not many know where to look, or care to look.

yes, Ed, it's sad to say, but it seems to be a most elusive formula, yet the one we need the most

I've always loved the Humpty Dumpty theme in a poem...and you've taken it to new heights. I love the last stanza, it gives hope and it beautifully ended.

Kacy,
So much for all the King's horses and all the King's men...

And my hat is off to that person for saving me a poet pal.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Oh, Kacy, I know this so well. I am so thankful that I have some people in my life (especially my Honey) who give me that unconditionsl love....in spite of myself.

Thanks for this. This is a keeper for me. It certainly did speak to me.
