I Look Into Her Eyes
~ By Sue ~

A lack of oxygen to her brain
Is what caused her to be this way
Locked in a world all her own
With thoughts no one ever knows
Not being able to express
The feelings that she has inside
She sometimes lashes out at us
Unable to tell what's going on
The anger is so clear to see
Each time I look into her eyes
If only she could say
What she has inside her mind
Her sugar went way up that night
Then it went down way too low
She looks at me with those sad eyes
Then she lashed right out at me
If only she could verbalize
What she may feel inside
I would not have these marks on me
When she gets a hold of you
The pinches are so hard
Bruises are so visible
And so are all the marks
Patience is a virtue here
So is understanding

Thank you Dixie for reading and responding. Yes, it is so sad. I work with the mentally challenged. That alone is a challenge. Especially when they are nonverbal.

This poem of yours is filled with compassion and understanding.  It reminds me of a poem by an author's name I can't recall.  Something about going to Paris only to arrive unexpectedly in a foreign land.

Beautifully done SmartChick~

Sue, this poem is full of passion for those who are unable to express theirs.

Just beautiful my friend, they are lucky to have you around.

This poem touched me. I am a clinican with mentally ill individuals AND my son is mentally ill. This was a beautiful way to express the pain we often see wonderful people struggle with. Great write. I am sure you give those you work with great light!

Make your words as sweet as honey, someday you may have to eat them.

Sue, this is such a touching poem. I thought that I replied to it before. I know that I read it.
You wrote this with much tenderness and compassion.
