Father’s Day Without
By Larry Chadwick
For my mom

On this first Father’s Day without my dad,
I’m reflecting on the good times that we had.
But I have someone else that keeps coming to my mind,
Mostly I am thinking about my mom whom he left behind.

Times are lonely when your dad dies and is finally gone,
But I cannot imagine what it must be like for my mom.
Sorry mom I understand I cannot fix your heart’s pain,
Yet I am here to help you walk that lonely lane.

I realize I cannot replace the loss that you endure,
So I just want you to know that I love you for sure.
I am inspired by your ability to carry on as one,
And on this Father’s Day I am proud to be your son.
June 11, 2003

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Hi Larry,

It's tough when one parent departs and the other is left alone with memories...but such is life, nice poem for a day many take for granted

~Elizabeth,
Thank you. Just doing a little reflecting.

Martin,
Thank you. Yup, life isn't exactly tidy. But it is manageable.

Lori,
Hey... It'll arrive on Father's Day. And sorry, it won't be framed. And thank you.

Sue,
LOL You guys are full of all kinds of suggestions. And thank you dear.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

A wonderful, caring poem. Your mom can't feel nearly as alone after reading this!

Larry, when I saw this
I expected something else...

but your mind is already out
caring for others...

so just know
you've received a Father's Day Hug
from a friend.

Larry- Been there, done that, bought the wardrobe. It really sucks on the first one. I'll be sure to send you happy thoughts with my nightly intentions.
This is a terrific write.

Goodness, I didn't know anyone felt that way as I did and still do also. All I could and can think about is my mom even though I hurt beyond belief without my dad. You have a wonderful heart.

Larry - You are the ONLY one who can help your mom - For her, his son is everything she's got left of his memory - Share yourself with her, and you'll make her smile...

This is a lovely poem, sir - and I wish you joy on this Father's Day, as you embrace your own son - and deal with your own personal loss. You're an amazing man... My most humble respect is  yours..

Beautifully written Larry,  I have my Dad,
and he lives without his mate,  my mother.
And on Mother's Day....I feel something
of what he feels, of what your mother feels.

I know that she loved this poem... It is
very nice.
