.

is an amazing thing.

On E-Bay I saw a helmet being offered
that was said to come from Iwo Jima.
There was a bullet hole through the top front of it.

When I was in the Marines, after coming back from
Vietnam, I met a supply sergeant at Camp Lejeune
who had a sideline in selling military gear.  At a small
price he would sell you a helmet with liner and  camouflage
cover, and for five bucks more he’d put a bullet through it.
I never thought of that one minute beyond the moment it happened
and yet decades later that instant on E Bay brought it all back.

You ever have something like that happen to you?

It almost makes you think that there are  other lives going on
beneath the only one you think you’re living.

Your last name would not be Flipson, would it?  LOL......I was married to a marine at about the same time stationed at Camp LeJeune.

Come to think of it, I think that is how my ex-husband got his flight jacket -- same vendor, perhaps....and I had not thought about that in years either.  Yes...that was another life.

"Your last name would not be Flipson, would it? "

Nope.

I did get to "liberate" a field jacket
for two gallons of yellow paint
I ordered through channels
for another supply sergeant
I knew in Puerto Rico though . . .
