Why do we hear Jazz in Hughes' poetry? I came up with the idea that Hughes' verse is all jazz to me not to mention that jazz was the instrumental part of Afro-American Modernist identity. each and every poem is reminiscent of jazzy syncopated rhythm and rhyming. Any other thoughts from your part? How can  you account for it?

A very good question.  I'm sure someone will come up with the answer, but I have a feeling it is the use of verbiage and specific line breaks...but I know it has to be more than that.  Maybe, could it be that we expect to hear that tone?  I don't know, but I will love watching the responses...

shall we move the topic?I expected more responses to come.perhaps this discussion should be moved to a more relevant section.by far this appears to be an offtopic. is there anyone at least vaguely familiar with modern poetry?

I haven't read enough Hughes to say one musical genre is predominant, but believe blues and jazz, as well as spiritual tunes can probably be heard within his writings. He was a prolific writer, and I've only touched a couple of things by his pen, so don't feel at all qualified to pigeonhole his work. Though I can see your point, reading his poetry outloud is like listening to jazz, at least to my ears, as there is something 'free' about the rhythm.
Does that make sense to you? LOL, maybe it's time to read more of Hughes works.

one of my Hughes favorites:

In Time of Silver Rain

In time of silver rain
the earth
puts forth new life again,
green grasses grow
and flowers lift their heads,
and over all the plain
the wonder spreads

  Of Life,
  Of Life,
  Of life!

In time of silver rain
the butterflies
lift silken wings
to catch a rainbow cry,
and trees put forth
new leaves to sing
in joy beneath the sky
as down the roadway
passing boys and girls
go singing, too,

in time of silver rain When spring
  and life
  are new.
