Ghosts, UFO’s etc. . .

Aren’t beliefs in them all from part of
the same hopes and or fears that are
the underlying foundations for religions?

I don't know if its hope or fear, but the underlining connection seems to be ascribing human-like motivation to unmotivated (as opposed to uncaused) events.

That is, projection.
