What is the difference between making fun of some one and telling the truth?

My philosophy is some poeple hide behind the truth to hurt other poeple. But how can you tell The difference?
Do you recieve any self gain?
Is it the truth?
Is it as big a deal as mentioned?
Does it make you feal good (In the wrong way) saying it?
Questions to ask.

I am still building on it though.  Help would be nice.

love Juju

I don't look at honesty as a tool or sword to hurt someone, never!  More so, to me, truth is letting someone know that you care so much about them, to honor them with what is.  I don't me an insult...what I mean is, that even if it hurts to tell them the truth, at least you know where you stand.  I admire someone who opens up doors wide....I don't want a friend whose going to nod their head sympathetically and tell me what they think I want to hear, but their honest opinion, so that I may think about it, evaluate and come up with a solution...hopefully bettering myself, and in turn...them.

I suppose it depends on the issue at hand...but honesty to me is to be cherished.
Not to insult...or hurt...never!

Juju, Harry Truman had a nickname -- give 'em hell Harry.  His most famous line was 'The Buck Stops Here' -- he took responsibility for what happened under his watch and he dished out accountability accordingly.

His response to his nickname was -- "I never did give anybody hell, I just told the truth and it felt like hell."

So, the question is -- to whom does the truth feel like hell?

Well you do put a good point. It can be seen two ways, but I see what you are getting at. I supose I should not let harrasment get to me... and learn the truth. Heh there is three possabilities: Its the truth, Its not, or it is just the person who deals the words. I wil just ask my sister Kati, she is very materialistic and notices flaws easily.  If she dsoesn't notice it it must not be there.

With much thought I came up with an conclusion. Truth is a fact It is either right or wrong, occasionly gray. When the truth is said whether or not its right or wrong it's up to you or I to decide. Words are only words, but the truth no matter how painful is right, only if it carries the message conveyed. You see the human mind can chose whats right or wrong. Sometimes the mind makes mistakes, then a lie occurs. Lies start other lies and end up hurting more poeple then the truth ever did. No matter what you did saying or changig throuh words what really didn't happens hurts you and others and forms a mistrust. The truth can hurt to ose who have been lying to them selves, hearing it can make them insecure.

You see it doesn't matter what poeple say, you shpould look at it in a pausitive matter and build your character. Some times poeple can say things to hurt poeple that are the truth, bt they are really lying to thm selves.
ex.-this is not a real senario

"J, your so fat you could sink the ss ann" said H
"No I am not My mom says I am "Healthy"" Said J

Now H is an athletic A student and J is and average letter grade student that is forty pounds over weight. (which is actually she is a little taller.not that badly over weight )  Both are lying to them selves. H wants to prove she is in better shape and 'cooler' by teasing her. She wants to know she is thin or good enuff. J is lying to her self because she is over weight. But not enugh over weight where she should of cared. Her mistake was litting the other girl belittle her. If you work on you charecter from what other poeple say it helps you from believing what they say because" the truth lets you free" If J where to start exercizing at a healthy rate, extravert, do volinteer work and try to be the best  person she can there would be no doubt her mind or reason to lie to her self.

Lieing destroys who you are as a person and the inside is the most important part of you.
Trying to be the best person yopu can be is the third most important thing in your life and the only way to do that is to build on your self by listening to what everyone has to say; at the same time remembering who you really are. Trying to hurting others destroys your self-image. I assume many "Ironic" out comes may result from this.

lots of loive

Juju, I can tell you first hand from experience of being on both sides of the coin...truth is not only fidelity to all those who love you, but to self as well, you've got the right ideas going here...Good luck and God bless
