A word is defined by its use.

map:  A representation, usually on a plane surface, of a region of the earth or heavens.
Something that suggests such a representation, as in clarity of representation.

Brad:

I would only add "popular" before "use" since a words generally require a context to have any objective meaning or usefulness.
