I'm writing a research paper on the existence of God and I need to find a reliable website (of which I've been searching for with minimal success) that defines the the characteristics of God.. I know what they are but I need someone to qoute! I know this is a question and should probably go in Q & A but I figured someone in the philosophy forum might be able to help me?? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. |

Are you looking for quotes from a website, or literary quotes? There is a lot of good stuff of the web, but it seems like for a research paper you would want literary quotations from people like Augustine, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, etc... Augustine and Aquinas are especially notable for their classical arguments for the existence of God, such as, teleological, cosmological, ontological etc... You can do an internet search for these lines of thought. C.S. Lewis' book "Mere Christianity" is probably one of the best books which presents human morality as proof for God's existence. Another interesting argument for the existence of God is the "transcendental" argument... the themes of this argument run way back, but it was refined by Cornelius Van Til. Greg Bahnsen is also well known for this argument. The best debate on the existence of God which I have ever heard involves Greg Bahnsen and Gordon Stein. Thanks Stephanos! I was looking for direct literary qoutes and with your suggestion I looked up Augustine and Aquinas and found some great stuff from them as well as from Anselm! Turns out that by typing the specific name for the arguement that I was looking for (ie. teleological, ontological etc.)in the search engine I was able to find direct etext sources; silly me, never occured to me to do that until you mentioned it. hehe I will definately take a look at the Bahnsen and Stein debate, thanks for the link and thanks as well for the offer to email you concerning bible qoutes, if need be I may take you up on that. I've been trying to dredge up memories of Sunday school from eons past and have actually found some stuff in my old bible that has been useful. Go figure, I actually retained some of those lessons.
