Whole Sort Of Genl Mish Mash
I actually enjoyed Ice Age a great deal. My kids liked it too ... well enough for me to buy the DVD.
If the producers of the story intended to convey the herbivore, carnivore, man moral hierarchy you described, I think they failed for a couple of reasons:
1. They anthropomorphized animals, giving them both the bad and good qualities of humanity ... the other herbivores weren't exactly "tolerant" of Sid the Sloth, were they? And how many elephants do you know who would risk life and trunk to return a human child to his father?
2. The human child's mother gave her own life for that of her child.
3. The human father's reluctance to leave his son behind and his hope that they would be reunited. What greater virtue is there than love?
It's a good, positive story with some pretty incredible animation. Why draw undue attention to minor points of the story?
Loved that stupid little Scrat too.
