Stephen...I do not ask you to support my views, and I believe I pointed out that I do not sit in judgement (and Brad, by that I mean of right or wrong viewpoints regarding this topic.) I simply wanted to point out the many, varied perceptions of "God and creation, and 'ultimate truth'"---now, if I must tell you what I DO believe regarding this subject? If you believe in an omniscient God, and have trust in the absolute wisdom, then it is NOT a stretch to think that God would appear or even be self illustrated in forms that the individual can understand.

And I am saddened by your sadness. Instead of wishing we all saw through the same eyes, wouldn't it be wonderful if we could get together and enjoy the descriptions of each other's realities. I do believe that is why I love to read. And that passion grew into my love of writing. I will keep you in my prayers, too Stephen. I hope that does not disturb you.

PEACE to you.

Brad, I have intentionally been staying out of this thread but have been reading it regularly.

You said "I see no need to have an overall metaphysical belief system."

I reply, just because that is what you think does not make it right.  It does not even mean it makes it right for you.

Actually, from reading your responses on many threads, I gotta ask this one question.  Do you believe all of what we know of creation so far is one big, happy accident?

Maybe that is for a thread of it's own

Serenity,  I love and respect your writing and your view and opinions.  I take exception with only one thing you said:

"Instead of wishing we all saw through the same eyes, wouldn't it be wonderful if we could get together and enjoy the descriptions of each other's realities?"

I maintain there is only ONE truth; ONLY one reality.  The idea that everybody has their own reality, their own truth is invalid.  In fact, that is the single biggest lie of "new Age" religion.

There may be many beliefs and perceptions, but only one Eternal Truth.

Interloper said,

"I reply, just because that is what you think does not make it right.  It does not even mean it makes it right for you."

I agree, but simply reverse it, turn it to yourself and you'll see that what you call eternal truth, one reality, or whatever is your perception, your belief. This has been discussed a number of times here, but usually what I've tried to argue is that we can't get to eternal truth, one reality, one way with the tools we now presently have.

Therefore it's simply an unfounded assertion to say that there is ONLY one reality.

I can accept different descriptions of one reality (or of multiple realities) because we are contingent beings. We may be more as well, I don't know, but I can argue that you act differently in different situations, that people see things in different ways, hear things in different ways and so on and so forth.

To say and describe the ONE TRUTH in any particular way is to describe it's essence and to do that is to be reductionist.

More later,
Brad

Interloper, thank you, my friend, for your kindness, and Brad beat me to the thread with the above post.   to Brad! By the same measure of judgement that we judge others, we will be judged. (just a little something from my own reality, if such a thing exists, giggle) Dashing off again!---

Came back to add, Interloper, and please consider this with all proper respect as this IS a complicated and highly personal topic, that the tag of "New Age" religion just cracks me up. If you do the research? You will find that the so-called new age philosophies pre-date Christianity. (A religion, which by the way, I have no arguments with, I just interpret it differently) but it did remind me of a bumper sticker I saw at the last Beltane celebration--- "My Goddess gave birth to your God." Not trying to pick fights, I just found it amusing.
