Lost in Life's Storm

I feel lost again
As I pound in the final nail
Boarding up yet another window
In my heart

Closing another doorway
To my soul
Locking it and tossing the key
Into the vast jar of other keys
Of forgotten hopes and broken dreams

Wondering why
They were ever opened In the first place
For when they are opened
The sunlight feels warm and inviting
You are unable to resist
The wonderful reassurance It gives

Unknowingly
The storm clouds are always
Right around the corner
Teasing and threatening
To take the sunlight away
When you least expect it

Until with a burst of thunder
And a flash of lightening
It pours into the heart's windows
And the soul's doors
Flooding
Every little crevice of happiness
Forcing you
To close up
Protecting what little is left on the inside
So you can mend and rebuild it

Wondering
if you will ever weather one of these storms
And continue on rather than start again

Knowing that unless you dare
To open up once again
After the storms departure
You may never again feel
The warmth of the sun

Sometimes though
You feel you'd rather
Live in the boarded up cold and darkness alone
Away from sunlight's enticing rays

"Boarding up yet another window
In my heart"

That line is what captured me at first..
Then it was this one that'll stick with me,

"Wondering
if you will ever weather one of these storms
And continue on rather than start again"

That's beautiful. Thanks for sharing this.

This is very beautiful and the imagery was lovely.

Cold hands means a warm heart

Thank each of you for your kind responses!

I suppose its all about choosing your storms wisely...but what about when they choose you?  No becomes an important word...thats the hardest part...James
