She tells me to pray,
To stand before you and bow,
To recite verses learned by rote,
I barely understand them.

What worth have they compared to my heart's cries,
What relevance have they before my soul's song,
Every moment I am touched, and I respond -
Is that not enough; it must be, I can give no more.

In mundane rhythms of life I feel you:
The drone of the engine and wheels on tarmack,
The beating of air through open windows,
Whining of blades of pumps spinning up,
Padded soft falling of my dog's huge paws,
Wings beating air away as birds delight in play.

To all those voices I join mine,
Raising a song of aching joy,
Longing, sweet and sad flowing through,
Each note a moment sacrificed to you.

She tells me to pray,
I do.
Perhaps someday her mind will be free,
Free enough to see that you are touched by me.

majnu, I enjoyed this poem, thought provocing; praying does not give one faith, but it seems to give her peace, that you show your faith through pray, you show respect to her by the action but our voices are heard which cry out from within. Pray well my friend, my you both enjoy peace and good fortune.

Sincerely
Rick
