Silence pervades the night of
fitful rest as neon brings the stark
upon the covered eye.  Countless
sheep dance the tune, jump the rail
as shot bled sight wrestles against
the barroom entrance light.

The crash of bells sounding the
dawn, closing the bar, extinguishing
neon.   Why now, when a mere
pittance of rest has doused the tired
brain and grain filled eyes?

Staring blankly, a stubbled chin
below the hulking scowl.  Asking
for perhaps a pardon from the
daily lashing of dawn on eyes
painted red, starved.

Knowing that the hands will crawl
the face of time as nods cramp
the neck and drool slides silently
into a forming pool...

The dead rest soundly as fretful
slumber waits the crash of
a near lifeless form.  A mumbled
voice....99, 98, 97...

brings to my mind that the brain is filled with grain and the eyes are the tired...
don't mind me, I have been taking a friend to DUI mandated classes once a week...so I can picture this with clarity.
