You learn to
speak in weapons
in this house
you learn to say

You should have
kept your legs
closed
when she says
I wish you were
never born
the millionth time

And if that doesn't
silence the room
throwing the love seat
half way across it
in a rage just might

You never worry
what the neighbours
might think
they're too busy
screaming at
eachother

And that was life
in our neighbourhood

Hope all is well.

This is heartfelt and strong. So many families are like this nowadays. Enjoyed the read.

...such a sheltered childhood I had...
when I learned of these experiences
in other homes in our neighborhood

I learned early...

why I was so fortunate.

Welcome home, Raph.

defintely alot of crap. I wish so many I read about on here would have had a "nice" childhood", not exceptional, but one with parents who cared and worked at keeping the family together and at least content. I was very lucky.

I understood this scene, and it's a 'F' rated movie that needs to hit the cutting room floor.
And now, drumroll please...it's time to move forward, to the next scene, with Raphael the artist and screenwriter, as he explores the world with a compassionate tender heart, a vision of reality that includes the beauty of love and friendship that somehow digs itself from the rubbish pile of life....

? where did all this chatter come from?

Raph, you bare your soul, your life, and you do it in such a way that i think we feel like were living it with u as we read it. which is scary, but i wouldnt change it 4 the world.
you're someone who can be painfully honest, and i know you'll say wah wah wah, i'm nothing special but,in writing, we dress up our words, and worry about how they appear, but in yours there is a rawness about them and i admire that so much.

So much goes on behind closed doors... and lingers in closed hearts. This hits hard... does so excellently. *S*

vell, vell, vell...in my Scandi"hood" ve lived in silence.  Mama may have thrown the loveseat across the room, but she didn't grunt or gasp, because emotion would have been revealed.  Everyone ignored the crash of the dining room light fixture and the shattering of the window it sailed through.  People next door did the same.  It was a quiet neighborhood. Lots of furniture in the yards.....

Aenimal: my words, which are especially about my mother's silence, no matter what the storm.  She never threw the loveseat, but her unspoken anger spit fire all around us, most of the time. Damn Finns, anyway.  But that was her style, it's what she knew.  Now she's a darling little spitfire who rarely hides her opinions.  :-)
