Dust
and musty paper smells,
the attic in the springtime's swell;
Marge is wearing mommy's clothes,
she says it will be tea time soon,
I'm in daddy's shoes and tux;
it's a rainy dress-up afternoon.

That was fifty years ago
when Marge still lived next door;
this old attic hasn't changed,
'though Marge grew up and moved away,
served tea for free at P.T.A.,
laughed about her kids when they
played rainy dress-up afternoon.

I'm liking this kind of dust, Sir...
and thank you very much
for the smiles...

Yep, the memories changing can be a good thing, sometimes. Don't you think?

I never had an attic, but sure keep memories like those in the attic of my mind.  Sweet how things that kids do circle, and are done again.  Enjoyed this!

I remember my grandfather's attic...you described the smell perfectly.  My sister and I would go up there and go through my grandfather's "treasures."  We never played dress up, though.  Played beauty shop once and gave my sister a really bad hair cut...big bald spots all over her head.  She was 3 and I was 4.  Gee, the memories your attic brought back to me.  Boy, did I get spanked for that one!  LOL

Much enjoyed, Mr. Icebox.

so nice to relive those childhood memories

My attic here is too nice, no musty smell there, no memories stored.

Cpat Hair ~ The past is how we remember it.  Isn't it? *smile*

garysgirl ~ Yes, sometimes it is a great gift.

Marge Tindal ~ *laugh* Hi Marge! Thank you for reading this, I am glad you enjoyed it.

jwesley ~ I am glad you enjoyed it.  Thank you for reading.

Martie ~ I think it is the same thing really.  The only added stimulus is the sense of smell which is one of the memories strongest triggering devices.  Thank you for reading my poem. And for your comment.

Patricia ~ *laugh* My sister did that to my little brother; it was great to watch.  Thank you for reading and for remembering.

passing shadows ~ Yes, one of my favorite pastimes.  I hope it was good for you.  Thank you for reading my poem and for your comment.

nakdthoughts ~ Well, no need to develop a dust allergy just to write. *laugh* The mind has its own attic.  Thank you for reading my poem and for your comment.
