It down shifted into the afternoon
And took me back to mornings at Ruth
The logging trucks on the road from cut down
The hills taking the sound like a song
Into the dim light and the slap of lake
The egret young hungry awake

The smoke from last night fire still in the air
The sleeping bags zipped together
Warm warm the space in there
Seems years fall away so easily
With a sound like a song from a just cut tree

You know you're gonna get my attention when my name is mentioned, right? LOL And I'm so glad... this brought back a rush of memories of nights in the forests... back when my back didn't mind ground sleeping. *S*

I like this, Martie. *S*

And just what was going on in those two

Holler down the hill
walk up the tree lined path
come and plant
the pine with me
and sigh, awaiting age

You know... this one gets to me...
very nicely done... very nice indeed....

All along the rose of evening
bounced the sounds of last runs
from those round legged monsters
carrying the cut flesh of pine and oak
down slashed trails that wound
up in bounce just wide enough
you could catch the edges
if you went slow...

Thick the run of sap
still bleeding from cut stump
to perfume the hot still of July
so that even stars were sticky
as we lay in watch for dawn.

I did not feel death then
as I do now
so we rolled our night
in twisted legs thinking of birth
and not destruction.

True it is that smells and sounds stir our memories the most.  This is a terrific recall of innocent times.  I've a much more mundane olfactory stimulant...mosquite repellent..smile.  Thanks for the memories.  Ken
