I see you like the notes a river plays
drawing me down to the light
and the words of some familiar song
when all along you listened on some other end of time
looking west for the setting sun just as I did
loosening your clothing in the heat
in front of fans from some other room

You opened and closed your heart
walked in parks and on streets
when you were heady with joy
or dense with loss of something
that seemed important to you at the time

You remember the scent of skin some nights
when summer loosens the closed windows

Taking measure of yourself against a tree
like me you grew

when you looked to see how much
it felt like only yesterday
that time stole something from you
while your eyes were closed in all those blinks

I wrestle with the demons that catch my fabric too
and sometimes I’d just like to stop
and let them hold me just to see
if they are as fierce as they pretend to be

How about you

How about misty eyes...
doggone it girl...

you have to quit catching me unawares...

nah, nevermind...we could use a good cloudburst every now and then...

Well, "how about you?"-- I'll tell you one thing for sure, Dear Martie, you sure know how to tug at my harp strings!

Beautiful.  I do battle my own demons sometimes and sometimes I see they aren't as demonic as the situation makes them out to be.  This poem spoke to me.  Absolutely stellar.

ah..to stop and face them... sometimes yeah... it would be a temptation to stop..but we get so used to running from them I sometimes think we forget how to...

as always... insightful and filled with beauty....

If there were a "shaking her head smilie" in wonderment - I would be using it here.

Hi Martie, I really enjoyed this poem of yours!

I liked how it started out, half pondering and half reminiscing about someone you knew, or perhaps didn’t. How you then brought forth this person’s sudden realization of how fleeting life can be. And then how, toward the end, you in a way console this person, by sharing that you too, are vulnerable to the afflictions of internal anguish.

Showing how undaunted, and defiant you are, taking on and wrestling your own fears. Was a very motivating, and inspiring finish.

“How About You?”

A very nice and challenging end, to a wonderful tale.

I am in awe, of your writing, and of your sensitivity Martie,

Truly amazing!

Count me in! Let's dare 'em....

Your references in this poem are simply captivating, picking up imagery from several directions, and you merge them forever into a single stream of thought and meaning.

"I see you like the notes a river plays
drawing me down to the light".........

"I wrestle with the demons that catch my fabric too
and sometimes I’d just like to stop
and let them hold me just to see
if they are as fierce as they pretend to be

How about you "

As always with your work, I can enjoy the pictures you give, or follow the deeper invitation....either way it's memorable.

I tried to pick a favorite part and couldn't... it's seamless and superb. *S* And considering the many paths it offered to my thoughts... I'd have to say Yup. *G*

I can't even think of what to say except that your express so well, that you awaken all kinds of feelings in me when I least expect it.

(big hugggsssssssss) Oh Martie, your words always touch my heart so deeply, dearest friend, when I was a little boy I had too many demons to struggle with and it breaks my heart that I could never live one happy day as a boy, and now those same demons from before I let confront me but they just don't see to retaliate in attack anymore since they seem to realize my new strength! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, you are very special to all of us and together we can help keep demons away, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
