She Can Fly

Through a broken window
she follows her dream;
but the shattered glass reflects
demise and defeat.

Blinded by the remnants
of what the future held;
The brilliant rays of hope
were quickly expelled.

In a desperate attempt
she believes she can fly;
and she climbs on the edge
of what once was her life.

Scarred now are the soles
of both her battered feet;
She raises her arms
as if in self defeat.

She stares into the heavens
and the tears fill her eyes;
She pleads to her God
for one more last time.

"I'm not giving up Lord!
I've not lost the fight yet.
I just wanted you to know
I have not one regret!"

"Though my life has been hard
and there were tribulations,
through You I found hope,
in You I have salvation."

On the wings of a dove
she is carried in flight
and brought back to rest
on her pillow that night.

Her dreams were only dreams
and her window, no longer broken.
She'll continue her life
with her eyes wide open.

A very powerful reminder. Thank you very much.

I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man.

Chills, Quatro, I have chills!  This is so good because I know this. You magnificently expressed it, too.

What a nice message of hope Quatro. I’m glad it turned out that she was only dreaming.

Very nicely done Quatro!

I have had so much on my mind lately that I found it hard to concentrate and hard to write.  Not even my journal made much sense, but I have spent much time here at PIP and although I may not have responded to as many poems as I would like to, I have been moved by all of them.  I want to thank you all for your inspiration.  I don't know from where this particular poem generated.  It just suddenly showed up on my page.

KoKo,
Thank you so much for reading and responding.  It really means a lot to me.

James,
It is always nice to see you stop by.  Thanks.

Patricia,
I had a best friend named "Patricia", but we grew distant after high school.  I'm glad you enjoyed my poem.

Richy,
You are certainly a pleasure.  You have no idea how much your work inspires me.  When writing this poem, I wanted it to be about a person on both sides of life and in desperation be able to overcome with leaps and bounds..."The story of my life."

Thank you all,
Naome

Oh, I like this very much.

You did a great job of expressing the turmoil
that one can often feel but ended on a positive note of hope.

Sue,

Thanks for reading.  I would be pleased if only one person was inspired by what I write.

Thanks again to you and Passing Shadows for another go round.
