You knew me
Once before
Friend, lover, brother
Well enough to share a smile
Or perhaps a secret
And trusted me
Once
Well enough
With your fragile treasures

But, that was before I stumbled
Away
From the warmth of this house
Seeking to finally sway
Or slay
My dragon
Only to return now
At once victor
And victim

Now I view the communal hearth
With my forehead
Pressed against the pane
You know my fortune
True enough
To be prodigal and pariah
I have returned to you
As Ishmael

ah...the prodigal returns to find what? acceptance and open arm welcoming back, or the denial?

perhaps the judgements passed in some other place or time can be shrugged aside and one taken as if in a new beginning...for face value to be seen what indeed becomes..

Well, welcome back, whether as brother, prodigal, or pariah....just behave yourself this time.
who are you, anyway?
never mind, just grab your keyboard and wade back into the communal pool

You know, the book Ishmael taught me so many things, so perhaps I will also learn from your poetry, as it seems the message is very clear in your first posting.  I reallly look forward to more and again, welcome.

So I'll slay the fatted calf
and mark this as
a holy day

The prodigal
returns at last
and I would have no other way.

Excellent first post Ishmael.

I look forward to MORE, yes?
