I might get it done
for some women
but that exclusive cartel
is a topography
that I fence in
and rustle into the folds
of my satin gloves
the rest of the dereliction
hardly raises a glass
when I pass through the room
I have a variety of ailments
pertaining to world events
but I keep them
under wrap and bandage
after all
I am not a politico
I am a cockroach
scurrying in the basement
hoping the lights don’t get switched
on
hey, don’t judge me
by the skin of my teeth
I practice abstinence
when it concerns the dentists
I would never
expose my breasts
that is why I always
wear a bra
I think you ladies
know what I mean
if not
than excuse the inclusion
I wanted to take a seat
in the captains tower
and watch
how you all get it done
please know
that the whispers
are all based in concrete
and the kisses
are placed with love
even in my obituary
the language will inevitably
smooth over the kinks
that kept the man
in stitches

You know, I love your critique message, and I am trying very hard to understand what you're doing, so I think that I can afford to offer you some reply.

This poem really required a lot of thought for me to so much as interpret, and having done so, I don't find it humourous as most of the other replies in this thread do, but rather sad... it's the whole "do I dare disturb the universe?" mentality, isn't it?  You are afraid to play any role, to expose yourself to the world, because of how it would react to you if you'd do so.  Revealing yourself, your opinions and thoughts on the world, would seem to you as embarassing as being caught without your bra on.

Because you don't wish to expose yourself.  You don't know what others will think.  So you keep it silent, you keep it under wraps, keep yourself "in stitches," with the hopes that nobody will ever understand you or draw out your feelings for public regard.  You don't feel that you matter, or have any role, but wish only to sit back and watch the whole world function without you.

It's very likely that I'm wrong in my interpretation.  If so, could you please correct me?  I very much enjoy this poem and wish to appreciate the depth that it has to offer.

Thank you very much,
Parasite

at times, i dont even know what Im writing...sometimes i just like the sound of the words I put together. however, have read over this i can say....

"I might get it done
for some women
but that exclusive cartel
is a topography
that I fence in
and rustle into the folds
of my satin gloves
the rest of the dereliction
hardly raises a glass
when I pass through the room"

OK, I was thinking about the women in my life and how strange it is for that to be plural, and how the actual quality of the women is pretty high, (take that however you want) sometimes i pass myself in the mirror and start laughing, wondering how I am doing it.....I am especially reminded of this when I get the complete opposite response, which is what the second part of the stanza was about...

"I have a variety of ailments
pertaining to world events
but I keep them
under wrap and bandage
after all
I am not a politico"

i was thinking about how self absorbed my work is, so what should I write about, politics? that would surely cause a ruckus, because Im sure we are not all on the same page, and I dont care to defend my beliefs..believing them is enough for me..i am not a crusader

"I am a cockroach
scurrying in the basement
hoping the lights don’t get switched
on
hey, don’t judge me
by the skin of my teeth
I practice abstinence
when it concerns the dentists"

who am i to say anyhting anyway, just an average guy getting through the day, I dont need anyones judgements

"I would never
expose my breasts
that is why I always
wear a bra
I think you ladies
know what I mean
if not
than excuse the inclusion
I wanted to take a seat
in the captains tower
and watch
how you all get it done"

this is the only really complex part, as much as I am open about my feelings, I am sure never to let my guard down, or ever completely expose myself, hence the bare breast reference, which leads me to women and how it always seems for me the more they expose of themselves the more control it seems to have over you, like a sense of responsilibity now that theyve shared something private of themselves with you..I dont see this work the opposite way very often....something like that, hence the "excuse the inclusion", just in case they think Im completely wrong

"please know
that the whispers
are all based in concrete
and the kisses
are placed with love"

just a reassurance for the one I love

"even in my obituary
the language will inevitably
smooth over the kinks
that kept the man
in stitches"

maybe by writing my own biography, i will have the last laugh, by making the fiction and the myth into what is remebered, rather than what is forgotten
