He dances seductively in the night wind
capturing souls within their dreams,
bending wills this way and that,
performing magic tricks, without the hat.
Capriciously playing the flute,
stealing notes
from out of nowhere
as if they belonged to him.
Mischievous moonbeams light his pathway,
enriching the harmony,
blending his rhythms with the very life
that grows beneath the giant saguaros.
And even as desert lizards and hawks
wiggle and fly in sacred dance
to the fantasy of his flute,
I find my feet following two steps behind,
not wanting to alarm him with my desire
to make this magical music my own.
Bending, twisting, arching
in sway with play of notes
rolling over my body
as the flute player
captures
my essence,
as I had hoped
to capture his.

oh...YOU...smiling wantonly here.

yes, I immediately had someone in mind when I read the title, and yes, it was none other than Ian Anderson.

sniff...You sure know how to get to me, because even if you weren't describing HIM, you certainly conveyed the magick...

and now? yer gonna make me be naughty and play Jethro Tull at this ungodly hour...

Thanks!

Mystical and magical...a melody reminisant of Dylan's Tamborine Man only in the desert.

Live like it's your last day...
Dance like nobody's watching...
Love like you've never been hurt...

Kacy, your poem exemplified so well how exhilarating the power of artistry can be.

Capturing not only one of the sheer elements of our need to express. But also, exemplifying one of the sheer essence’s, of what makes us human.

It sounds like it was, “Good Times.”

I enjoyed it very much!

Great Write,

Richy

Ah... I know of a flute player that dances in desert lore of old...

nicely done...it captures or could be seen to capture several levels of meaning...

Kacy, this is wonderful and creative writing, youve taken your theme and created such cool imagery and a surreal essence to this. Very well done girlie

my essence,

to capture his.

And you did. I can see two images of that fellow from where I sit... ...and I could almost hear them playing as I read this.

Beautifully done, and a beautiful thought. Kokopelli smiles. Be sure of it.

Careful!  Kokopeli also is the great trickster seducing innocent (and not so innocent) women in the night, leaving them forlorn and abandoned at sunrise .  *laugh*

A great poem; thanks for sharing it.

Midnite

Sometimes music is magic, sometimes the music maker...usually both. Enjoyed this so much..especially the last lines.
