Among the meadow of the green
greatly stands the watering oak.
Where battles raged the hard fought land
and whispers fell the ears in cloak.

A wish was made upon the halt
of wars that waged upon the dale.
To be laid down beneath the limbs
of mighty oak ‘neath darkened vail.

A tomb was laid of rough hewn stone
where in the king would lie if killed.
But when the oak was sighted, seen
it was this place then spoken, willed.

And in the tomb of darkness damp
no souls were laid in honored sleep.
For ‘neath the oak a promise kept
the king then lay in earthen keep.

Though now the years have downed the limbs
a trunk still stands burned, black and charred.
Where warriors come to hail their king
from battles won, from battles warred.

Beside the trunk, below the knell
a stone does lie among the weed.
A story told, the oak did stand
through raging wars and crimson bleed.

And as the years do take a toll
upon the trunk once tall and proud
A warrior rides and waits the knoll
to be the next ‘neath oaken shroud.

This needs no photo, no illustration.

You just did that quite masterfully with your words. You told a story, AND painted the picture Mag. And funny, but when it reads easy, it SEEMS easy, but oh yes, I appreciate the work that goes into that.

You just keep knocking them outta the park.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Barry, this is a very noble dedication, dearest friend, the tree may be gone but the roots are still deep in the soil and the blood of the king has stained them to a golden amber! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, seems the purple blood is always boiling in your chivalrous heart, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Magnus~
The title drew me ... the write outstanding~

Just yesterday, I was on a lens-walk through my woods ... snapped some haunting photos of the stately water oaks ... and though they are good photographs ... your poetic voice painted the vision even more magnificiently~

Thank you for being a poet !

Someone said the title drew them to read...I say the author's name drew me to read.  I can always expect a magnficent read from you, Mr. Magnus.  But, of course, I must make sure I am not distracted by life...which in my house is rare.  I need time to savor, read and reread.  Then I wonder, then I ponder, how does Mr. Magnus write with such eloquence...never failing.  Perhaps you will share your secret?  I have a feeling it is a gift from God which  cannot be explained with words of this world.  So, maybe I should instead count my blessings that you are here with us.

Beautiful as always,
Patricia
