I saw a little girl
standing on the street
With the saddest eyes of
anyone I ever did meet

Why?  What Happened?

I saw a very young Mother
with a baby in her arms
So very young, yet she had lost
so much of her charms

Why?  What Happened?

There was an old man
I saw in the grocery store
He was so feeble
a sad, sad face he wore

Why?  What Happened?

There was a little widow
who just wanted to talk
So lonely and so feeble
so frail she could hardly walk

Why?  What Happened?

There are so many people
in this world of ours today
Who need the help of others
yet do not know how to say

Why?  What Happened?

To see others needs
without them having to ask
Friends, would that be such
a very hard task

In yesteryear everyone
always helped one another
Even when they were not
a blood sister or brother

There are only two questions
I would like you all to ponder
Two questions answers
about which I do wonder

Why Not Now?!?  What Happened?!?

This is another repost from when I first came here....slightly revised with font and color.

garysgirl,
I was going to come back later but then I asked myself "Why not now?" So here I am asking, "what happened, that you have grown so as a poet?"
Kethry

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

LOL Lynne. I don't know that I've grown that much?
But what amount I have grown is because of the
examples taught from all of you talented poets here.
I've read a lot of poems since I've been here
and learned a few different forms. Also some of
the sweet people here have taught me how to change
the font, colors, and how to add the graphics.
Ya'll just don't know how much I appreciate
everyones help.
Thank you all.
Hugs to you,
Ethel

Why not now? Good Q. But I really don't think History proves people were really any more compassionate in the past than they are today. We just SEE and HEAR of all the bad things at a faster pace today, since the media keeps us informed constantly 24/7 of disasters.
We are all lucky to have compassionate people such as yourself residing here. Thanks for being a constant source of compassion and friendship.

Thank you, Julie. I really appreciate
your kind words. You are sweet.
.
.
Kacy, you could be right. Nowadays there's
more news media to tell about the bad
things constantly. And, apparently there are
a lot of people who want to hear it. A friend
of mine told me yesterday that she went to
the library in one of the colleges here to
search through the old newspapers from the
early 1900's. She's putting together a family tree
and is studying her ancestors genealogies. She
said the old newspapers were kind of like gossip
columns from our small town, with reporters from
each community giving reports on who was sick
and the ones who were better and stuff. The
papers from the larger town close to us had a
little more news but not that much.
Thank you, Kacy, for your sweet and kind comments.

I appreciate both of you very much.
Hugs to you both,
Ethel

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Ethel, it saddens me so much to see many children and the elderly and those living in starvation and exile neglected of love and the provisions they need, dearest friend, I send angel hugs out to them all as I believe everyone is special and not one person should be left behind as we all bleed the same color and share the same feelings, God Bless You, my prayers are with them and I pray soon we can rather hear people speaking a whole different question, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ethel, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

I find that we live such a hectic life now that we don't even take time to know our neighbors. People move around much more seeking work....our world seems to have grown smaller but people have grown further apart....This poem brought tears to my heart....It made me even more greatful for this site which is filled with loving and caring people who express their hearts with such wonderful talent as you display....Thank you for posting such hearttouching words...

Oh ethel mae you are so right. Helping these people in need is so rewarding too, if only more people did so. I volunteer at the salvation army, in a day center for the elderly. And i have so much fun, they are so wise and so so funny. And all they need and want is a little company and laughter.

you've got such a kind heart, to think about all these people, i too would love to help more people than it is humanly possible!

much much love to you friend.

So glad you pulled this up from the well again -- I'd never have gotten to see it if you hadn't. It's beautifully concieved, which shows what's in your heart, and beautifully written, which shows what's in your head....!

we need more people like you around! I think poets are more noticing of their surroundings and the poeple around them. But most of the world isn't.
In one of my dads college classes they had been studying the Good Samaritan.. and just before class the teacher planted a situation where a kid was (fake)hurt in the hall.. nobody stopped to help him!!
its crazy *sigh*
glad to see you're bih heart here

You my dear lady, have a heart of gold. Shouldn't we all ask, shouldn't we all care? The answer is yes, but sadly, the answer is also, some most certainly don't.

I hate the fast pace of our world today. It allows for our neighbors to suffer, and we don't see. It allows children to go hungry, and we don't feel.

Very touching write dear lady. Somehow I think in life, you wear your heart upon your sleeve.
