Accomplished, Memory

I bought a drill, with lots of volts,
a present for a friend.
So when he got another one,
my night would never end.

Returned it to the hardware store
at 5 o'clock today
and came home with computer desk,
so heavy, did it weigh.

It's many parts we carried up
the steps to second flight.
That voice inside gave quiet scream
remembering that night
when once before the two of us, my husband
then would fight
when following directions that
were never written right.

The pictures were in faded ink,
the numbers were too many.
My glasses worn, were fogged from steam
of heated words of plenty.

But this time, friend and I just laughed
while sipping tea and chatting.
Such fun it was to share in this
and give ourselves back patting.

We worked and sweated hours, 5
until we did complete
the desk, a present for our friend
who was sofa'd fast asleep.

I sliced a piece of birthday cake
to take back home with me.
With smile I am contented
with accomplished, memory.

This is you at your best, my friend...
a wonderfully beautiful, poignant write.

Why thank you jw...

I have  been  helping my friend who has cancer. We wanted to buy him a cordless drill because he is renovating a house. But his brother beat me to it. I knew why I didn't want to get that desk..because I remembered past times of putting one of those together. But this was fun...maybe because of who it was for and maybe because  the other friend and I enjoyed our mistakes.

hugs and thanks

it didn't last very long
