Depth of the Disease

I'm above the feeling now
And I'm high enough so I see changing pictures
On changing clouds
As I drift on a chemical sea of blue.
And my dreams I mold like clay
And my screams come from someone else.
Not me.
The pain of reality,
sugarcoated,
Surfaces through holes in my skin.
Scabs cover me.
They decorate the better part of me.
Like seeds,
We grew in the concrete garden
And tried living in the cracks in the sidewalks
of the disease
Under the stains of bootheels and smiles.
And I do my duties,
faithfully,

As a slave to its cure
