As dusky leaves with tints of rust
fall slowly to the ground
They dance with cohorts green and gold
then gather up in mounds

The smell of wood fires in the air
amidst the bracing chill
Bring urges to take long strolls through
the dale and up the hill

Your trusty woolen sweater
with it’s redolence of must
Is shaken in the cool crisp air
to throw off last year’s dust

You pull your warm thick stockings
on and you lace your shoes on tight
Preparing for your daily walk
before the darkened night

You trot along and kick the leaves
now strolling hand in hand
Your sending secret glances only
you both understand

You look around and see the trees
get barer by the day
You watch as flocks of ducks and geese
are busy on their way

The kitties all look furrier
as winter coats abound
It’s gets dark ‘fore you know it,
as the bats start on their rounds

You hear the crickets chirping,
as they call out for a mate
Your stroll begins to quicken
as you notice it is late

The sun is down, the moon is out,
a lone star gives a wink
Your hearts together share a beat
as you both walk in synch

You get back home and change
your clothes, and start to settle in
The house is cold, the heater’s broke
so much to your chagrin

You light some logs and drink mulled
wine, and contemplate your day
Your laughing at the stories
that each other have to say

You take some meat out from the freeze
its harder then a brick
You figure if you want to eat
your gonna have to pick

“Did we have Chinese yet this week?”
“Pizza was yesterday.”
You think about just going out,
but then decide to stay

You make some scrambled eggs
and put some jelly on your toast
You lay down on the couch and then
you hold each other close

“If you would  like, I’ll get more logs,
and split them with my ax?”
“Don’t bother Dear, I’d rather we
just lay here and relax”

“My day was really hectic and
all that I want to do.”
“Is lay here with you by my side
so that I can hold you.”

They’re sleeping in each other’s arms
and then he is awake
He makes sure that the fire’s out
and gives her a small shake

She doesn’t budge, and so he gives
the one he loves a kiss
And gazes at her lovely face
and drifts to sleep full bliss

What an autumn eve's story you told in this beautiful piece. Almost makes me want to wish the summer the away.

What a lovely piece, so romantic and full of love. The part about feeling warmth helped as its freezing cold here this morning

Hi Nancy, it’s always so nice to hear from you! I’m real glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading, and big smiles & hugs to you too.

Hi Patricia, yeah I actually wrote this some months ago during the fall, but thought I’d go ahead and post it anyway. Thank You for the nice reply Patricia! I hope your daughter is feeling better.

Julie, how are you?  Is that little baby still kicking...lol  Oh hey, I just noticed your down in Australia! We have quite a few here from “down under.” How does the weather work down there in the Southern Hemisphere? It’s approaching Summer up here. Are you guys in a cold season right now? Well stay warm OK?  And thanks for the “warm” comments.

Hi Martie, I’m real glad you liked it. Thanks for taking the time. I really appreciate it. Hugs back to you!

Saunni, thanks so much for reading, and for your kind comments. That was very nice of you

Noah, A reply from you, is like having sun beams breaking through the clouds, onto your picnic, in a wildflower meadow!  Your enthusiasm is so intoxicating!  Thanks for always lifting me up!
Big Hugs back to you!
