Listening to every heart

Empty Nest

No picture required, for deep is the feel
Of empty rest
Though nestlessness is common and ordinary
So as no one should feel bad at the fact
That gone is gone

For whether the young ‘uns flew
Or were due to be part
Of a cycle of nature,

They are departed, perhaps hidden,
Still in grow of feather and fluff,
Still in wait of songs to sing,

Or perhaps a cat smiles contentedly,
I will not know
Until next spring

When a black eye peeks knowingly,
Knowing me
From a time before, when the robin’s egg
Was still in blue

When spring replays
It’s cyclic tune
Of promises kept.

Karilea...life sometimes turns so quickly and you find you speak in the past tense of feathers and things.  So far, spring has always come again.

This has been a wonderful experience you have shared with us Karilea.
Thank you so very much..
although it did bring tears to my eyes as my youngest and last to leave the nest will be married in just two days...

Still in wait of songs to sing

ahh Karilea this makes me sad ... you say it so beautifully ... "cycle of nature", but I do hope they were not a trophy for a cat!

No longer at window is Karilea
For her birdies have left the tree
In her memory they shall stay
So, they can't fly to far away

We thank you for their song you sang in words
As sweet tweets are the only songs of birds.

Love,
Patricia

AW, Karilea. This is so sweet and shows what a really compassionate heart you do have. It reminds me of my Mom when she had those little birds hatched in her hanging basket on their porch. She was sad when they left. She likes to believe that they just flew off. Maybe your little ones were just hidden by their Mama, if they weren't old enough to fly yet.
I've enjoyed your keeping us up to date on the little birdies.
Thank you,
Hugs,
Ethel

aww how sad that they're gone, I wanted to see them all feathered and fluffed up. I'm gonna miss them.

Beautiful Karilea.

while yours is empty a young neighbor of 8 came over to show me a baby bird she said "fell out" of a low nest. She had it in a cardboard cylinder and covered with cotton. I asked her what she planned to feed it and she said the tiny petals off my spireas. I had her show me the nest and there inside was anther baby. A lesson in not touching the baby birds and leaving their care to their parents was then taught.

She wasn't happy, but slid the baby back with its sibling. Now I am keeping an eye on them to make sure they have a chance at life.

Karilea, I have so enjoyed sharing the joy of your young ones. I feel like their surrogate mother, as do you and the rest of the poets and readers here.

You were a good mother and they will return next Spring to bring you more worry but more of nature's joy.

Hugs, Marti

We teach them how to live on their own... and off they go... Go figure... It's surely an adjustment, isn't it?...
