Oh, but to fly on wings of gold,
to crest the highest peak...
To touch the hand of God...

From shimmering seas of lofted swells
to open plains of flowing wheat.
Rivers flowing to oceans pure from
babbling brook to roaring fall.

Each mile, whether on a tether of
black or upon a dusty road to nowhere...
Each a priceless gift, given to of us
as freedom allows the roam.

From abandoned gas stations on forgotten
roads to bustling cities and malls.
From ghettos where a baby cries to
star filled skies on a desert floor.

Across the canyons wide to Redwoods
that tickle Heaven’s bed....
To rattlesnake round-ups and rodeos
or rolling hills where deer freely roam.

Ribbons of black, ribbons of steel...
All laid by hands once young...most now
old or laid to rest generations ago...

Pioneers that walked the wilderness, as a map
is laid from charcoal sticks and countless pages
of candle or fire lit notes....braving the dark
of night, the chill of winter....that we might..

Touch the hand.....take a tour....

Onward ....  First star till morning....

Then.....who knows?

Good write. I enjoyed reading this...

“We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best that we can find in our travels is an honest friend.” –Robert Louis Stevenson

Magnus...Refreshing write from you. It had a patriotic tone  and message. Bt the beauty of this poem lay in the imagery and the superb poetics used here. ***Ivy Rose
