The world may end today or tomorrow, or the next time
some angry politician feels the wall against his back,
then all we've done and thought
all the truths for which we've fought and died,
the loves the lies the triumphs and the pains,
will all be gone without a single human voice
recalling what had or could have been,
why we never will again.

The world may end today or tomorrow, or the next time
the news comes on to tell us why we're number one or two,
why there are so very few options left,
not sheeted placard bearing fools
screaming "Repent! Repent! The end is near!"
but rabbis, priests and ministers,
drunks and whores and sinners,
blue suits and saints and scientists,
wall street analysts and politicians' kids
discussing in abstractions
how the act of ending human life on earth will feel.

The world may end today or tomorrow, or the next time
a mistake is made,
an unexpected breeze blows a plane astray,
self-righteous hired hands decide God's on their side,
a tired eye sees shadows thought to be a threat, or
waiting, always waiting, driving more insane
any one of several bloated egos claiming rights
to crush the future in their hands to preserve
some ideology that doesn't even feed the poor today.

Well, lately the only positive use for them seems to be as examples for teaching young children what not to be when they grow up.

Thanks for reading.

Another reason to live for today, and realize the moment per-say.  I don't know, but I like to think that we have some control as to how we spend out time.  Better to bat your eyes, than blink.     I'm getting on a plane in a week, and you've gone and given me the heebie jeebies, but I can't let that stop me from living.  If I don't come back, be sure to cry a lot.

Always a thought provoking write from you icebox~  Much enjoyed.

The world definately is getting harder to think positive in but we should try to, it starts with one person and inspirers other to do the same. Great write

BluesSerenade ~ Sit comfortably facing North.  Light a pale blue candle and while staring at the flame create in your mind a quiet peaceful image.  You will be fine on your trip.

Thank you for reading my poem; I apologize for giving you the "heebie-jeebies."

whiskey ~ You are right about that.  The older I get I am confront increasingly with a paradox; things need to change and yet much of the mess we are in today is the unanticipated result of well intended philosopically motivated politically correct changes.

Thank you for reading my poem and for your comment.
