Red-painted Nails

Bent over to tie my shoe. . .
from the corner of my eye saw bare feet,
red-painted toenails coming my way.
They came close – paused – went on.
Could it have been, would it have been,
You?

In the days that drift before my eyes,
the sun rises, sets, the moon comes alive,
and I watch to see if an eye meets mine,
if a look says Hi,
I listen for the note that bridges
the gap between souls,
I’m looking . . .  for you.

Missed opportunity . . .
was it you with  the red-painted nails,
or were they meant to walk by,
was it you . . . but I guess not . . .
our hearts would have known,
and red-painted toenails
could never, say goodbye...

They came close – paused – went on.

There's always one that comes close, pauses, and goes on.....and afterward the looking goes on without a pause. A well drawn picture here, and something that every man can relate to.

Very nice write indeed.  Much enjoyed.
I never much cared for red...must be why mine are painted orange!
Do take care.

Thanks QJQ and Ratleader...and nakedthoughts,
seems to me yours would be just fine...painted or not.

And Tanya, the way I see things, a woman is from head to toe, and the color one sees when "her" shoe comes off is just the sigh at the end of a beautiful thought.

*laugh*

I have one of those in my memory closet!  I can't remember when she was coming back.  It was either when Hell froze over or when the pope.... Uh, nevermind.

Great piece of work.  Thank you for posting it.

jwesley, this is very good.
I always prefer pink my self
instead of red.

icebox, garysgirl and jinglebear...yep, I think most people prefer some shade of pink to red, including me, for nails, but I chose RED for the connotation.

Thanks for the read.

naked feet
walk by
without a sound
in a journey
not knowing where
they are bound
paths cross
on roads
not taken
at times they
trip and fall
being mistaken
get up, we go on
walking as far
as the moon
in search of
that heart that
is paced in tune

The color red shows off so much, huh?
This reminded me of when I was a kid, playing heads up seven up on rainy days.  Only to be peaking at the sox of the person tapping me on the head.  Sure enough, I guessed right every time!  Neat poem jwesley...it's so good to read you here.

Good write, Wes...it's nice when ladies take time to pamper themselves, just so the sigh can be heard when the shoe comes off.

I have to admit, I liked that line as much as the poem itself!

To me...red has always been the color of passion and you have got it!  A woman in red is often a fantasy of men and it seems you had the opportunity to have held her.  I hope you find her again.

You know...
It's the pause of the red painted nails that intrigues...
Becauses pauses indicate thought...which speaks to a second chance.

Jimmy...perhaps if you had looked up, you would have been disappointed...the painted nails keep the dream alive.  PS...mine are red at the moment...fancy that!
