on the open road with the wind blowing in my hair

I am not in a supermarket at California, Allen
I do not travel to Denver on a whim, Jack
I just sit and watch the America you helped form
I write without the help of drugs
I personify middle America
And i hate myself for it
I live through the people of the past
I take in their deeds so that I am not forced to act
Damn you, Jack and Allen
You stole all the good ideas
Struggling poets are no longer romanticized
They are scorned and laughed at
Poetry is no longer
Romance has escaped from our lives
We are zombies
I follow behind leaders who know what they do
The walking dead, Jack
We care not for your feeling, Allen
Yeah, to be young was great—once
To travel the continent with a youthful zeal was great
But what do you have to say to me—
A petty little man
With no dreams and no aspirations.

the only people for me are the mad ones-mad to live, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at once--jack kerouac

Ahh the dreams you lost along the road ... may you discover new ones. Every generation has its own dreams ...
Very strong piece, so well written.

ahhh....you are pure poetry. who cares what people think of poets these days? let THEM live their petty little lives, you keep being the miracle. you know how it goes, "dont let them bring you down, it's only castles burning..."
and as for those of us who are poets, well "we understand each other on all levels of madness" -jack :Þ

and even when everything was wrong, and we were mad at the world, it was still beautiful.
