darling

crawling out of the trench
to face the post modern reality
I can hardly recognize
the landscaping
the garden of eden
feels like a graveyard

a break from the routine
a change in latitude, longitude
for just a little while
would serve me well
but where could I go
not the desert
the ghosts of futures past
are waiting out there
to take the passenger seat
and to the west
there is only that wide body of water
where we touched our feet to the edge
the northern territories
are the place you call home
and if I head south
I’ll never be seen again
Ive been there too many time before
to believe any different
Ive never gone east
maybe if I go far enough
in that direction
I can outrun
the choices that have been made
by someone
who is
out of reach
I need to stay in motion
like a whirlwind
keep my eyes
on the road leading
towards the sun
towards the summer
and the playthings
that will help fill the void
she has left
I wish you were like the rest
so I could find that hatred in my heart
and discard you
abandon you
like I feel
I have been
but it is not like that

and I don’t know what is worse
that
or this
right now
it doesn’t really matter
you are gone
and that
is all I know
