Standing by the sea,
watching the water run away,
knowing when it returns
I'll no longer be.

Tsunami!
Tsunami!
Oh angry god in ocean's form,
come smash my life away;
better this
than drowning peacefully.

makes me think of what power we have over the larger powers that be that washes our individual integrity away sometimes..when an older person begins to act like a child again
I mean immaturely...oh well.

Interesting write.

It sounds like you are saying God is arrogant and you are helpless.

Acceptance and surrender.

Some would think that a good beginning to true humility...

Enjoyed this thinking poem.

I'd rather go out with a bang than a whimper myself. I like this one.

Powerful write...
There is different arrogance, just as there is different love...
The only power we have ever held, is that of choice...Bravo!

I read this several times yesterday, and was unable to come up with a reply that accurately said how it made me feel...still can't.  I do like the way you write...wanted you to know.

I, too, keep coming back to this as

I too, tend to shake my fist at the sky...

not that it does me much good. *smile*

Enjoyed.

ecrivan ~  Yes, we truly are powerless before some things.

regards2you ~  No, I do not know a definition of any one's god which includes the concept of arrogance.  True arrogance always is a reflection of insecurity.  No god worthy of the name is insecure.  Helplessness is not the same as powerlessness.  Either can be a state of surrender, but powerlessness includes a recognition that there is no available choice but that of accepting the inevitable.  Helplessness is a paraesthetic state in which there is a numbing lack of awareness.  Thanks for reading and for your comments.

garysgirl ~ Humility is a good quality for a god.  Thank you for reading.

Pilgrimage ~ See, that is the difference between helplessness and powerlessness; one can still stand and take the hit.  Thank you for reading.

ThisDiamond ~  Choice is the fundamental building block of existence.  Thank you for choosing to read this.

Martie ~ Thank you for reading this and for your comments.

serenity blaze ~ Well, shaking your fist at the sky is at least good exercise.  *smile*  Thank you for reading this and for your comment.

Icebox,

I enjoyed this poem and the replies and your replies. I am not questioning your meaning or intent. I do want to clarify what I meant re: arrogance..there are many forms, and I was speaking more in line with peremptory: absolute, fixed, uncompromising. I cannot answer for any one but myself, but with this human mind there is no way possible to judge the worthiness or lack of worthiness of God. Impossible. Regarding the helpless. My God is the potter, I the clay. I am not powerless, I am helpless, I AM OWNED, but I don't have a sense of numbing lack of awareness, but rather extremely aware... and completely at His mercy.

He owns me lock, stock and barrel. He is my Master. I couldn't change that if I wanted to. That is my personal belief. And, this is in no way meant to be argumentive. I personally think God is merciful, but I do not think He is humble. Who in the world is He going to be humble to. Mere man?

Man could not even look at Him without falling prone on the ground.

I believe we too often try to make Him human.

Anyway, just trying to clarify my definition of arrogance re: God.

This is a very interesting and thought provoking poem. I do appreciate it and your thoughts.

Thank you very much, Hugs, Pat

..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons..

regards2you ~ Thank you for your replies.  I am not offended and truly hope I did not give offense.

My youngest son (eleven) asked me this year if there really is a god.  He is too young and lacks the frame of reference for me to try to share my beliefs with him.  However, I told him something I do believe.  I explained to him that for as far back in history as I was aware, humans have discussed, debated and defined the existence of god.  We talked about different belief system to which he has been exposed; it is a wide range. I told him that in all those beliefs there was a common thread and that by giving a human definition to the concept of god, humans had proved the existence of god.

Every god definition that I have encountered has included the concept of a being so powerful that the power itself is beyond human understanding.  When I explained this to him, he agreed that made sense.  I told him that the fact of the existence of humans by itself was sufficient to prove the existence of god, because humans do exist and because in various ways we have defined god as the undefinable.  God's existence, defined as a unified force so complex and powerful as to be completely beyond human comprehension, then is undeniable.

Thank you for you thought provoking comments!  *smile*

passing shadows ~ Yes, when dying is all that remains, one's demeanor should matter.  Thank you for reading and for your comment.
