     Alstromeria

From my chair of words the window watch
colors the gray unsettling clouds
with tips of gay
this one is like the setting of day
just before it reaches night
deep into lavender

bursting from the center are two feathers
blessed with yellow
and lines of burnt umber
the headdress of a maiden flower
the stamen warriors dance in front of her
the wind taking them
into her blush of crimson
and just for a minute
as I hold the delicate bloom to my nose
I inhale a smoky campfire

Love the headdress of a maiden flower!

What a lovely visual that is.

You write in living color, so vivid, and especially beautiful.

......Like Sunshine said!

This one a little change of pace for you, and I like it....

the headdress of a maiden flower
the stamen warriors dance in front of her

Poetry better than this doesn't happen...the way you pull meaning out of such little details and then launch it to a new level... astounding!

Windows are great, aren't they?

Terrific writing, Martie, although I can't expect much less.  You have those last lines that literally make me gasp with excitement somehow.  This was one of those, like "A Love Story," where the last line just had me floored...

All of your description is so clear and imaginative.  I wouldn't mind a glimpse from behind your eyes, myself... I have a feeling you're going to be a popular partner in the duet club.

this begs a series of "flower" poems. . . not necessarily about each one. . .but, rather. . . poems that have a flower as the title. . .

wonderful my friend. . .
