The Golden Years

Sitting in this lonely room
Stillness all around
The smell of dampness covers me
Why can’t I hear one sound?

The musty fragrance in the air
Chokes my every breath
Yet the emptiness can seem so loud
When there’s nothing left to bequeath.

I reach out into the empty space
Searching for a clue
Will I find serenity
In what I have left of you?

Loneliness and emptiness
Seem to go hand in hand
And looking at my own I see
A golden wedding band.

Life will no more be the same
Without you by my side
My presence here seems senseless
And I have no more will to cry.

I look beneath my feet and see
A wealth so bold and sure
A memory left from the past
A gift so proud and pure.

What secrets hold this Persian rug
That’s been trampled on for years
What stories it must have to tell
To these windows without shears.

Flakes of dust gently float on air
And shimmer in the sun’s rays
Settling down so quietly
On whatever that they may.

I take a breath and turn to go
And wipe a few stray tears
Memories are all that’s left
After all these golden years.

2000

What a sad and heartfelt poem...

Quatro, may golden rays of promise and hope radiate through your window... and into your heart...

And bring you the courage and will to continue to be happy...

Just as I’m sure, you would have wanted, if it was your loved one there, sorely missing you, and cherishing your Persian rug...
Sincerely,

Richy

Richy,

My window is wide open
my hair blows with the breeze.
I feel the warmth of the sun
and it's gentle squeeze.

My heart is content
and my will is growing strong.
I thank God I have found hope
and the will to carry on.

Thank you.

Passing,

I'm sorry to have brought painful memories back to you.  I hope that you have more happy ones than sad.
