the letter carrier comes and goes
nothing but junk
or nothing at all
I guess you’ve gone down the hill
for the night
indisposed and unavailable for
the usual running commentary
there are reasons for this
quite honorable ones
they clearly justify the repetitive triggering
of the fore mentioned, sanctioned clause
a voice in my head begins to mumble
so I go to the icebox
and unleash the vodka
I pour it over the dissenting voice
and it quiets down
for a while
I must keep at it
one glass after another
until I pass out on the couch
or at my desk
while writing something
resembling this

these are the fruits of our love
the thing we celebrate
in our music, poetry and life
but Im beginning to feel
like Im missing something
a part that equals more
than this crude rendering of the whole
however
when thoughts such as that
press
I just pour
and pour again
until
there is nothing left

You both thrill me and frustrate me.

(That's a compliment.)

You write such logical madness with such clean lines--I shame to go back and read my feeble attempts.

But then, I guess that's just all part of the deal...

I do want to say, you manage to strike emotional chords that free verse does not normally strike in me--I find that intriguing.

(smile? that's right--yer still under my microscope!)

I wish I had written this one. I'm
keeping it in my library, for inspiration and an emotional jolt to stimulate my heartbeat.

Yep, you got somethin' eatin' at.
But, I always enjoy the regurgitation.
