Late at night in drawer of sock
Three knee-highs lay together
Last in line to be tried on
in lieu of colder weather.

Two knee-highs of forest green
lay snuggled heel to heel
The third knee-high, bright and blue
felt a pain he couldn’t reveal

Bereft of his blue brother sock
he gazed at the green couple there
And felt as though out of sync,
since he wasn’t quite a pair.

Sighing now, he wished that he
would find his mate of blue
Thus it is in world of sock
tis the same for me and you.

Ah this is so cute Sharon.
I know where that other sock is...
they tend to hide up against the side of the dryer..
just waiting to make a run for it when no  one is looking.

I felt so bad for the sad third sock. He felt like a third wheel and the odd man out!

Warm hugs to you--and the sock so blue,
EA

Me either - now I feel so badly I threw out those "orphans" as we call them - what if their mate shows up?  Oh heavy guilt here.   Beautifully done Sharon, and what a metaphor this was - I am learning.

That was one of the cuter poems I've read in a long time...

By the end of the first verse... I was already laughing...

It was very clever how you got your message across...

It was a delight!

Excellent metaphor, not analogy (du-OH!) of a life that many people, unfortunately, live.

I hope all single socks can find their match.

Well written.

I'm sitting here with a laundry basket full of socks that don't seem to match anything.

I was annoyed, but now I just feel sorry for 'em.

Geez. See what you do?
