It was a very small,
very quiet realization
that I finally heard
through all the noise.
Somewhere between a dream,
an alcoholic daze,
and a moment
of pure, poignant clarity.
In a downtown street
at 4 o'clock in the morning.

I was surrounded by homes,
like the home I've always wanted.
Families,
quiet, sleeping,
warm in their worlds;
their beds.
I,
on my knees,
lost in the mist of my own breath
as I heaved out sobs of sadness,
worthlessness;
understanding...
Trying to cradle myself
in the arms of concrete
that reach out to this cold city.
Arms laden with snow.
Arms that don't quite reach every place.
Arms that don't quite reach me...

And I heard it then.
A slight whisper
in between my sputtering and gasping.
It started when I pushed it all out.
Getting louder as I quieted.
And when I had stopped,
the lamplit streets came back
to a silent winter haven
bathed in an orange glow.
The whisper;
a sharp internal voice
that rang out in my head so loud
I could hear nothing else.
I could hear nothing,
but the truth.

And there it was,
beside me in the snow.
A matter-of-fact expression
upon it's face.
Like an old friend,
with common sense and honest tone.

"You don't have to be here if you don't want to be here. You don't have to feel like this, if you don't want to. It's your choice.  It's been your choice all along..."

My tears had frozen on my eyelashes,
on my cheeks,
on my heart...
The truth stung more
than the cold I stumbled through that night.
It stung more
than the reality of facing dreams
I may ultimately never reach.
It hurt more to hold it in my hands,
than to face the people and places
I've burned for,
yearned for,
but will never have....

Lessons in life,
mistakes made;
moments of clarity
just waiting to happen.

Stretching the personal boundries of understanding.

Life truly is poetry in motion.

(big hugggsssssss) You truly never have to remain there, it is your choice and if you rise to the occasion and look for the clearing, you can find a pinnacle and then when you climb the mountain to get there, it doesn't feel so strenuous at all like it used to! This is an excellent wise debut, sweet friend, you shine with understanding! Welcome to Passions, sweet Ani Zen, may you be inspired by all of us here as we will all be inspired by your lovely words! I can't wait to read more of your lovely poetry, dearest friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ani Zen, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Welcome and I'm sorry that I'm fashionably late..but your words put everything into perspective and I'm really like yeah exactly can relate in my own ways..

If at first you don't succeed destroy all the evidence that you tried.
