I say my heart and

laughter

would I be
funny
if I lied
made pretty
words to fit
the expectation
would you
laugh now
if I’d failed you
even more by
never speaking

if you would
defend
by this,
what must
you wall away
from honesty
or risk hurt,
what hurt is
salved
by distance
and derision

what would be
worth acceptance
if not truth,
and with no
expectation,
how much truth
would you
accept before this

laughter

Ed,

This is a seriously not funny poem.

I could only say I think that would depend...it is so easy to step on another's toes when we forget sensitivity, and what is a serious endeavor and selfless jesture for one might create such intensity for the other, laughter may be the key to difuse it's power though NEVER intended as a personal attack, it might seem that way to someone who meant well and does not comprehend the why of it. Important they know the person well though to make that judgement.

I am very guilty of laughing at many wrong moments in life. Usually, it does not involve anyone else...sometimes I do just chose to laugh, for I take myself way too seriously, as much as a heart attack!

But, that is me....one should never laugh if there is the chance of another not understanding the feelings involved....wish someone would tell that to my children...well, not really, they helped me come down to my right size many times....now, we all laugh not at, but rather with each other..

I just reread your poem and my thought is that ~Truth~ no matter the good and right of it...can be very, very potent to some with less intelligence or experience or knowledge.....sometimes no less shocking than a slap up alond side the head...
Hugs, Pat

Ed...I have to agree with alot of Pat's wisdom...laughter can be something other then what it seems...it can even be tears.  Always love hearing your poetic thoughts...you ponder in such truth filled ways and with a big heart.

Yep, Ed, I'm doing the same thing Dixie said........
"Drifting off into a mood"....to ponder what you have said.
Your poetry really does that, friend. You are such an observant person.

Hugs,
Ethel
