Goodbye my old friend We both knew you’d reach this end Long ago you once said You’d die sleeping in your bed My mind’s eye sees your there Dirty clothes and thinning hair Jack half gone on the night stand A cigarette half gone in your hand Eyes closing on some dream familiar Perhaps your own recurring nightmare Ice incrusted at the Chonin Retreating with men almost frozen A terror of heroes in flight Lost a toe or two the night. Finally you are ever warm Safe from memories safe from harm Gloom The Chonin Reservoir was a strategic of the Korean Conflict |
