* * * *

I tried to step inside her shoes
And walk around for awhile
She seemed so sad and distant
And her face contained no smile

She looked so lost and lonely
In desperate need of a friend
Had her heart been broken
And would it ever mend?

I sat quietly down beside her
And greeted her with a smile
I thought I'd keep her company
And stay for just awhile

We talked about so many things
About her life in days gone by
And as she relived her memories
I saw a tear escape her eye

Her face began to change
As she opened up to me
Her tales were so uplifting
She seemed so alive and free

We talked for what seemed hours
For much longer than awhile
But it was worth every single minute
To see the joy within her smile

* * * *

I am thinking of doing voluntary work,
maybe visiting the elderly or young
homeless people who need someone to talk to
and who may be just lonely. This was just
a senario that I played out in my mind and
I decided to write about it.

I am in motion
I am blue
Love is an ocean
I'm anchored in you

(big hugggsssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, you truly are an angel living here on Earth because of your compassion for all kinds of people! (wipes tears) I help both children and homeless people at the local Catholic Community Center and I also like to go down to the Muslim Cultural Center and comfort the people there who have been going through too much since September 11 and need hugs and support! (wipes tears) God Bless You, sweet friend, you will bring smiles to many of these people I know, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Bravo!
Volunteering is one of the best things you can do.

God bless you Sue for helping those less fortunate. I cannot think of a better or more noble thing to do than volunteering.

Beautiful sentiments in this poem. And the picture reminds me so much of the poem I wrote, 'Simplicity  Then and Now.'

Sue, this type of work can be very rewarding,
very emotional, and sometimes very stressful.
It is one of my "hope to dos" someday, only I
intend to take along a canine.  They seem
to speak for us when we cannot.

Sue - your words always bring me smiles
but this one was different
made me - you brought me there . . .

I wanted to do this myself
actually with teens

Go for it
you would be quite an amazing
inspiration to anyone
You are to me

I loved this

Sue:  With your kind and caring heart, you would be wonderful as a volunteer, either for the young or the old.  You seem to have an abundance of love for your fellow humans!

Your writing did my heart good. Listening (not just hearing) can be the greatest gift anyone can give.  I am a substitute teacher and have put smiles on the faces of my students by simply listening.  It is the greatest way to show you care.

I love this verse.

This is beautiful, Sue. I think that working with the elderly, whether real or volunteer is one of the most rewarding jobs a person can do. There are so many lonely people in the nursing homes. Even in their own homes.
