I remember
the feel of hands
against the bark
in determined climb
through the green
to meet the blue

And the dream that
if I'd stretched out
just far enough
I could touch the clouds

My mother would
scold me out of the tree
and into the house
before I ever could

These days it's
cynicism that keeps me
from reaching them
or worse from even trying

g'nite folks

Ouch! The cynic's revenge, to leave the last verse for the reader to make up!

My motto...if you can't climb it...find a chain saw and make lumber out of it..

If you give me a slight heave up, I will sit
on that branch over there, the one
that would hold two,
just to sit, and look up,
and perhaps, to talk

if you want to.

The trees know us even when we are distracted.

When we appreciate them for their beauty they feel acknowledged; when we utilize them as a resource, we add value to their existence.

Thanks for sharing.

Oak...
A warm, strong wood.
Meant to be climbed, proud to be standing, secure in it's shape.
How much you become the finest of trees my friend. TD

Raph, my friend, if we'll just stretch a little
bit farther, we  will  reach the clouds
one day. But, if for some reason, we are delayed,
we will at least have the satisfaction that
no-one
kept us from trying!!!!
Right?

Heart hugs to you, dear friend

Aenimal~
You touched a remember deep inside me~
Mine was the Camphor tree ... still branches where I left it as a child.
I go there from time to time to capture fading feelings~

Greatly enjoyed this~

An excellent write. You prove time and time again that you can write about any subject...AND? you prove yet again that less is more in your writing.  In my case in relation to the poem, it was my father, not my mother. I'm keeping this~

Intellectually I know that Canada is no better than any other country. Emotionally I KNOW that Canada is the best country in the world!

Glad you did david

Thanks Marge glad to be of service ..grin

Thanks Sue have fun

Melissa believe me it was my father, i just used my mom for this because she was always worried i'd fall out of the tree and because she'd have to basically drag me inside when i was out playing. My dad would rather I didn't play at all

I think the real subject has been overlooked
the tree is just a tool
- to accomplish your dream
you need to find one thing or one dream even if its a small one to start with
& go for it - screw the masses & their negative scrutiny - chase your dreams -
you are the architect - Build Your Dreams -
to YOUR design ...Oh & you dont need anyone's permission but your own - so give it to yourself - you deserve it my friend

The Oak ... la quercia, è un simbolo di forza.
Your poem is beautiful and I think the memory came up because the Oak is calling you ...not wanting you to forget how beautiful it is to reach out high to the sky .... vai abbraccia il tronco.

Smiling at this one. I was the best climber in the neighborhood as a child. Never did quite reach the stars or the clouds, but refuse to give up, as I believe I'm very close.
Enjoyed this one.
Wanna go climbing some day?
