A mind's trick
or play of light
but I thought
I saw a hint of green
in these eyes

Reminding me
that I'm as much
her son as I am his
and there is
hope in this

Though his face
still mocks me in
my own reflection
I am more than he

Through the blood of the bastard
I am still my mother's son

Yet again Raph, your writing hits hard.  Each case is it's own type of hell, but, DAMN I relate!  People are always telling me how pretty I am, how much I look like my mom, but as I get older all I can see is my father's features in mine and it sickens me because of what he did to my mother and I....I feel ugly because I am remnants of him as well, but there's hope also knowing that I am half her.  The last stanza really hit me...I know this well.

Hugs,
Melissa

Raph, I could feel this one, friend.
It really touched me  This especially...

Reminding me
that I'm as much
her son as I am his
and there is
hope in this

Oh yes, friend, I agree with Sue, there is more
than hope. Besides a touch of green in the eyes,
she also gave you the traits of love and compassion.
I feel it in your poems and replies, as well.

And, Raph, this is very true, too...
I am more than he.

Yes, you most definitely are!!
Heart Hugs,
Ethel

Some poets are dancers, and some are boxers.

There's unexpected power in the dancer's movements, and there's a particular grace in in the boxer's, but you can always tell the difference.

....and you definitely won this round.

Yet again, I am reminded of my favorite prayer, not for its "religious" origin but for its wisdom:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;  the courage to change the things I can;  and the wisdom to know the difference.

Powerful writing, friend, as always.  May you find your peace...

Your words also show that you are your own person...The flesh may look the same but inside the heart and soul do not beat the same tune....Beautiful write...

This powerful poem touches deeply ..... but I can only think that you are a beautiful offspring of both. And this is a fact, more than hope.
