I don’t usually listen to music
When I am driving.
Not that I don’t like it,
I just find the windshield time to be
A rhythmic counterpoint to the tunes
Blaring from some top 40 station
Or even the tapes I have stuck
Under the seat in an old box
And get distracted.

Some journey’s I have been told
Take a lifetime or more
To completely understand.

I was starting to realize that
For me the journey I have written here
And the stories I have told
Are just a part of the whole
And would never be completely told.

Partially because I do get distracted
By the melodies of other words
And of the heart as it tries to beat
In some sort of harmony with itself
If not with another.

I stuck an old Blues tape today
And let the words wash over me
Trying not to see the scenery
As it passed by sterile cored glass
Encased on two side by the grime of living.

Hoping the music would indeed
Distract me as I left this place.

……………………………………………….
So I’ll sing a song to the road and the wind
I’ll pass through the desert on roads with no end
But a thousand more miles is no stretch for the mind
When the truth of it all is what you’d leave behind.
…………………………………………………..

Your minor distractions
are a festival for the rest of us
captured travelers...

Keeping singing...

even in low key...

we promise to listen...

...and no one sings this kind of song better than you do!

Keep on rolling, observing, singing and writing...

Ron,

I like the whole of this piece, the thoughts as you ramble along. The last lines very good.

If the stories were ever completely told, I would miss hearing them and ask for a rerun...   Stories change, even as we tell them, maybe...because we tell them.  And every now and then a storyteller comes along who allows the tale to breathe through him, as it evolves.  It is my good fortune to have met (and attempted to learn from) one of the best.
Last 3 lines I quoted here...exactly!
Now, about this getting distracted thing, maybe I can help with that...
First, unplug the frig...

I believe this to be a very true statement. This is what makes life a journey and so interesting. If we understood everything instantly, how boring!

Keep telling your stories and if they never end, I believe that to be a really good thing. When they have an end, life is over.

Hang on to your distractions, it's what makes you you.

If only the Truth could be left behind...  I have found no roadtrip or cd that can do that.  Thanks for the thoughts, Ron...

Ron:

I know EXACTLY how you feel
love this one and here:

……………………………………………….
So I’ll sing a song to the road and the wind
I’ll pass through the desert on roads with no end
But a thousand more miles is no stretch for the mind
When the truth of it all is what you’d leave behind.
…………………………………………………..

is the refrain to a song . . .  hmmmm

Ron,

Disappointed that I somehow missed this (work is so darn demanding).  The words you wrote here seeped into me and met up with the same feelings.
