I stuck out my hand,
“Travis” I said introducing myself.

“Davis” he replied and gripped
my hand in one almost twice the size.

“We seem to have a common interest.”
I began, not knowing where I was going to end.

“Lacey? Yeah we do.”
Came the cautious but terse reply.

“You have a history with her, Davis.”
“I’m just trying to begin one.”
I offered with a grin.

“She and I go a ways back.”
“Some good times some bad like all things.”
He replied as his posture changed from rigid oak
To spring steel.

“Look,” he almost growled
“What’s your point here?”

“You are someone she cares about,” I started
“and I figured anyone she cares about had to be special.”

“I wanted to find out for myself.”

“You’re a fool.” He laughed.

“You aren’t the first one to tell me that.” I chuckled.
“and probably won’t be the last.”

“Look, Davis,” I drew a breath
“I told Lacey I was leaving”
“She could use a friend.”

I turned and walked back out the door.
Sunshine blinded me after the inside of Lou’s
With it’s dark shadowed cool, and I stumbled
Just managing to catch myself by grabbing
The fender of someone’s car.

It takes a while for eyes to adjust
When you’ve been sitting in the gloom.

Ron,

This is wonderful writing, as I have said so many times to your writes...
----------
“She could use a friend.”
....
.... and I stumbled
Just managing to catch myself by grabbing
The fender of someone’s car.

It takes a while for eyes to adjust
When you’ve been sitting in the gloom.
-----------
how could it not be wonderful?

thanks for the read,
regards,
sudhir

I see that you included our Sunshine and Gloom in this illustrious write--as well as yourself!

Warm hugs,
