....yet another re-titled/re-write...this will now be the final version.

Ode To Maybe

The black sky seeped raw wounds, exposing pain
on muted earth that overlapped the tide
erasing hand etched "I love you's" in the sand
where wild horses run free of it's knight holding me...
as life hasn't given me that promise yet.

Once again, I throw flames to the fire,
wishing that the wind would come along
and sweep me off my feet to slow the burn,
of this, my personified prince peeling each layer
to sting my eyes with finally!

I am Eve, reaching blindly for the fruit
with arms outstretched on the edge of desire
in sweet sadism and vulnerability
of skin eyes rubbing weep with scar tissue.

Temptation trickles over lips
but, the hunger cannot be sated
when mind mirrors of faceless lovers
shine the screams on poison apples
and fairytale abandonment.
Stubborn, I, just can't leave well enough alone,
and I question that there must be something more
as impatience slides through fingers, broken heart, pensive pen,
with more unread, untitled words written in wait.

And, when the wind changes direction
I reveal everything that remains in the silt,
though, somewhere, a kindred kind shall see it all as gold,
and pick flowers that speak to me,
that touch places, hard to reach
like feathers kneading skin, inside out.

I want, I crave, I feel
so, someone please tell me
that Camelot is real,
that faith is believing in a power you can't see,
knowing that 'perhaps' is half full on it's way to yes
rather than he loves me not redundance
in an all too sobering empty glass of impossible fantasies.

Life still hasn't given me that promise
of a signed, sealed and delivered kiss,
so, tonight, I think I'll beat fate by joining him
and count the falling stars.

It's time I settle for lowered expectations,
to find beauty in the perfect of imperfection,
it's all I have left,
this hope, unstill, of breath held in 'maybe.'

Honeybee - your words are very touching.

It's time I settle for lowered expectations,
to find beauty in the perfect of imperfection,
it's all I have left,
this hope, unstill, of breath held in 'maybe.'

'Dream for the moon, yet know deep inside that if one cannot reach it, at least one gave it their best. But never settle for lower expectations. If one cannot reach the moon, it still doesn't mean that one has settled on lower expectations. Just that one is in tune with ones self. Find beauty in the imperfections, as you have mentioned, for there is beauty in them.' Hope some of this makes sense, and that it came across OK.

Meliss, this is full of assonance and many other wonderful poetic qualities that show how much talent you possess as a poet.
As always your theme and emote are done to poetic perfection.
Dont settle for anything less than what you dream of.. no one can take away what you believe in...never give anyone that power.

You're the best I've ever felt ...
it's so wrong not to be with you.
It's getting harder to stay away,
it stops my heart just to be with you.

You're in my head again...but, I believe it will happen. There's nothing more beautiful than the dream of the Camelot you speak of, and I'd rather all other dreams fade or die for the sake that this one comes true. Though cynicism tells me otherwise

I'm trying hard to think of all the words I can use to describe what I felt after reading your poem.  However, I'm stuck because all the best words are in your poem.  I hope that makes sense.  I'll be sure to post another reply when I catch my breath.

(big hugggsssssss) Yes, love isn't perfect and just follow your intuition and go with the love that seems as most perfectly imperfect to you! (sigh) Sounds kind of inexplicably explicable but there is no shame in that, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Melissa, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

you are amazing - this one I am with you on

Melissa, I had rather believe in the glass being "half full".....and to hold on to the faith.
This is a beautiful poem, even though there's a heart-cry in it.

Ethel
